About the KL Trophy

An elite youth football tournament

Targetted at elite level 11-a-side youth teams in Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific, the KL Trophy offers academies a unique chance to play against the best competition at some of the region’s premier football facilities.

Coinciding with the popular Borneo Cup in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, the KL Trophy is organised by the company behind the AirAsia KL Junior League and the Kuala Lumpur Cup.

Tournament dates

For each age group, the KL Trophy has been organised to run in the days before or after the Borneo Football Cup in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The dates allow teams travelling to the Borneo Cup to play in a second competitive tournament during their transfer through Kuala Lumpur.

Competition format

Catering for 8 teams in each age group, the KL Trophy will provide participants with 3 group stage games followed by semi-finals/play-offs and finals.

Top 2 teams progress to Cup
Bottom 2 progress to play-offs

Knockout stages

Playoffs: Semi finals > Final
Cup: Semi finals > Final

3rd/4th matches for all competitions

Age group cut-offs

Please note the following cut-off dates for eligible players in each age group. All participants will be required to show their original passport or identity documents before the start of the tournament. Female players may be 2 years older than the listed cut-off.

Top football venues

Matches in the KL Trophy will be played at UM Park and UM Varsity Green in the heart of Universiti Malaya, as well as Ardence Arena in Setia Alam. All venues provide state-of-the-art artificial turf with floodlights and on-site facilities including changing rooms and toilets.

UM Park

Opened to the public in December 2017, UM Park is located in the centre of Universiti Malaya and features a top quality floodlit astroturf pitch with covered seating as well as a basic on-site cafe.

UM Varsity

UM Varsity Green is the only artificial turf field in Malaysia using a state-of-the-art shock pad beneath the turf. Centrally located in the heart of Universiti Malaya, the pitch offers an unmatched playing surface.

Ardence Arena

Opened in February 2018, Ardence Arena at Eco Ardence features 2 full-size artifical turf pitches with floodlights as well as on-site facilities including toilets, changing rooms, cafes and even a supermarket.
